Hi! If you got an invite to this page, I want to work with you on a project over the next year 🙂
Næxt.one is a SuperMemo like extension for AnyType.
Anytype - operating system for life
What are these? SuperMemo is a software that enables incremental learning and AnyType is new app / development platform that is currently in closed alpha. Don’t worry I’ll convince you later of why these two are absolutely incredible and why a combination might make them even more powerful.
It’ll be an open source project with maybe some funding (depends on how much we have to pay for licensing and how much you want to get paid) and the timelines are to begin coding by the end of the year (depends on how fast AnyType leaves the alpha), but we can already prepare the UX and architecture now.
Here is a draft to a blogpost that explains the project (from the perspective in which it is already build):
Incremental Everything: Introducing Næxt.one
A more technical summary on both programs, I really encourage you to play with around with both of them:
SuperMemo (SM in short)
- Some good resources on the whole philosophy: (toggle)
- Try out the program: https://super-memory.com/english/down.htm
- Download SM 18
- You can use it for free for a while (it will need a one time purchase at a certain point, but that shouldn’t matter too much)
- Document your experience! We need a lot of User Stories later
- Things that benefit from this method:
- If you want to know more, ask Raj https://www.linkedin.com/in/raj-thimmiah/
AnyType
- Closed Alpha - so you have to either go through a whole onboarding session, which takes a while, or I will share my key (not here, ask me individually)
- Its basically Notion, just better.
- Benefits of AnyType over SuperMemo
- e2e encrypted cross-platform sharing (over IPFS, not a cloud provider): so best of both worlds, online, but you own the data - this also means Mobile and quick capture!
- Very ambitious milestones and an impressive developer team
- Collaboration! - will talk about this a lot more at another time
- API! - allows so much stuff (importing Kindle notes, contacts, mails, ... exporting to webpages (it’s markdown, so direct to Hugo, yeah!))
- Networks instead of folders: the object - relation - set architecture is just beautiful and works a lot better than SMs Folders (SM has Concepts, but they are clumsy and not really bi-directional)
- Markdown / block based editor (a lot better then SMs HTML, in my opinion)
- Venture backed, high budget, fast growth mindset, all investors mission aligned
- But still Open Source (after it leaves the beta)
- Notion like design allows integration into the rest of your life operating system, I have a very large one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4-TYSah25UM (recommend the whole series), but even smaller systems benefit from this- SuperMemo kind of tries this, Peter does write his mails in it, it has tasks and a sleep tracker, Notion / Anytype are just sooo much better.
- Based in Berlin, so some of us can visit them :)
- Drawbacks:
- Still alpha: it will take approx. a year till we can implement an extension, but they have a good track record
- No Spaced repetition build in - but that is where we come in!
